Fashion POS requirements beyond the product photo
A shirt can look like one product and behave like twenty stock records. Choose a fashion POS by the way it handles the specific size, color and location the customer needs.
Make variants visible throughout the workflow
Prepare a small range with several sizes, two colors and at least one sold-out combination. Give each sellable variant its proper identifier and starting quantity. Ask the provider to import the range, print or read its labels and receive additional stock. The test should show which exact variant changed, not merely a higher total for the parent product. Check whether images and naming help a new employee avoid choosing the wrong item.
A stock query should answer a practical question: is the medium blue shirt available at this location, another location or neither? If a transfer is needed, follow it through dispatch and receipt. Shopify’s documentation describes variant-aware transfer records; use that as a reminder to investigate the exact evidence in every shortlisted system, not as a substitute for your own demonstration.
Test the last available unit explicitly. Have staff find it, reserve or sell it using the workflow your business expects, and then check what another register or connected channel sees. Do not assume a reservation, a parked basket and a completed sale reduce available stock in the same way. Document the expected behavior before the demo so the provider can explain the actual rule and any limitation without changing the question.
Treat an exchange as two linked decisions
Rehearse an exchange from one size to another, then an exchange for a differently priced item. Check the original selling price, any discount, the refund or additional payment and both stock movements. Ask what happens when the receipt came from another location or the item is not suitable for resale. Keep the store’s return policy separate from the system’s technical ability to record a return.
Prove promotions without losing price control
Use one realistic promotion, such as a selected collection discount with exclusions, and combine it with the situations your staff encounter. Ask whether discounts stack, who can override them and what the receipt explains to the customer. If sales commissions matter, include a discounted sale and a later return in the commission demonstration. Do not assume the treatment of returns matches your payroll policy just because a commission feature exists.
- Test the variant barcode on the actual tag, including small or folded labels.
- Check whether online stock and in-store stock share the required availability rules.
- Confirm that a staff member can find stock without seeing information reserved for managers.
Read the season at the right level
A best-selling style can hide sizes that never move. Ask for reporting that lets you investigate the product and the relevant variants, alongside returns and remaining stock. Validate the dates and costs before comparing margin. Use a sample season with known quantities to judge whether the result answers your buying questions. Finally, request the full configuration price, including ecommerce connections, extra locations and label equipment where required. These are evaluation requirements; they do not assert universal support in VoVi or any other provider.
